Cleopatra: She was the last Pharaoh of ancient Egypt and a legendary beauty who ruled as the reincarnation of the goddess Isis. Many thousands of years later, she is still remembered as a famous rulers. This was a woman who knew what she wanted and would do anything to get it: she even smuggled herself inside a carpet into Caesar’s palace. She was a charming beauty who still captivates the imagination. Her “look” is all about stunning exotic beauty and timeless seduction.

Queen Nefertiti: The infamous Nefertiti who was most in need of some updated treasures proudly commands respect in my 18k Yellow Gold Vintage Sage Earrings with Gemstones and Textured Temple posts from Katrina’s Frankincense and Myrrh Collection. Photo Image: iconic bust of Nefertiti is part of the Egyptian Museum of Berlin collection, currently on display in the Neues Museum

Queen Nefertiti: Her name means “the beauty has come,” and Queen Nefertiti is still remembered as one of the world’s great beauties and most powerful women. In the elaborate engraved stories depicted on temple walls, she appears almost twice as often as the pharaoh, her husband! Her image set a new standard for feminine beauty, one that was all about graceful lines, colorful pattern, and exotic allure.

About a year ago I had a profound inclination to learn how to juggle. I had always been fascinated by my sister and best friends ability to juggle. So by incessantly watching numerous instructional youtube videos, I mastered 3 ball juggling. Yet, that just was not enough. If I could juggle three balls, then why not four. This time I signed up for a class taught by Rod Kimball, who taught me some 2 and 3 ball tricks and stalls. Occasionally, Michael Karas would fill in as instructor. I befriended Michael via facebook which led to an introduction to Playing by Air, a variety performance group he is in. Playing by Air is formed of 4 incredibly multi-talented individuals who wholeheartedly love what they do; 3 master jugglers and a skilled masterful violinist. Just being in their presence is creatively contagious and delightful. I have just returned from watching their opening show for the NYC International Fringe Festival. I am utterly enamored and awed. This show is more than mere juggling. It is the crème de la crème of juggling/variety shows. They don sophisticated black suits paired with ties the colors of rainbows. It was humorous, well crafted and jubilantly entertaining. The children and adults cried out bewildering oohs and ahhhs throughout the entire performance. Hip-hop, dance, classical, Fat Boy Slim and some children’s tunes accompany the variety acts. It has an essence of an understated, clever cirque du soleil, but it is entirely their own and one-of-kind. At the end there were Q & A for the performers; one lady stated it best when she said how inspired she was, and that it made her believe anything is possible. Without further ado, Katrina Kelly is off to practice juggling…

I strolled through the newly renovated Limelight Marketplace yesterday. This venue has a historic and prolific 163-year-old history. It was once a historic church, then a notorious nightclub. Most recently it was renovated to a three-story labyrinth-like maze of luxury shops keeping some of its original and important architecture integrities; exposed brick and stained glass rose windows. And in the aftermath, threw in some new, fierce and unapologetic DECO and Glam Glam. Today you will find an array of shops inside; Petrossian caviar; olive oils at Carter & Cavero; and Jezalin’s, a fancy-food shop stocked with breads, charcuterie, cheeses and condiments, Whisk, a cookware shop based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, MarieBelle chocolates; Mari’s New York brownies; Butterfly Bakeshop; Cupcake Stop; the Little Candy Cake Company; the bakery Wanna Hava Cookie; Baci Gelato; Miss Tea, for teas and accessories; and Jala frozen yogurt. My favorite nook was the top floor MarieBelle tearoom-nice view. And the talk of the town is that Grimaldi’s pizzeria will take on space there. By: Katrina Kelly

Ballet has never been on the top of my extra curricular culture activity list, despite my love and admiration for a lavish costume. Perhaps, because the extent of my ballet knowledge is based in my limited repertoire, or association of seeing the Nutcracker oh so many times. Certainly, not belittling the Nutcracker by any means… It is just that, apparently ballet is tremendously rich and diverse, running the gamut from classical to neoclassical to contemporary.
I have just returned from a road trip to Saratoga Springs, New York and some surrounding towns like Woodstock-peace and love to all-A friend and I saw 7 ballets at The Saratoga Performing Arts Center. My friend knows Christopher Wheeldon, the choreographer for some renowned ballets, like After the Rain, Estancia and the up and coming Alice and Wonderland. We had the privilege of listening to an intimate and engaging interview with him talk about his work. I feel that the level of appreciation of an artists work becomes so much deeper and profound when you meet them, or hear them speak about what happened behind the scenes to create the masterpiece. With this insight I came away so moved and enchanted by classical and modern ballet alike.
Most memorable Ballets to me:
Red Angels – Music, Maxwell’s Demon by Richard Einhorn, Choreography, Ulysses Dove
After the Rain – Music by Arvo Pärt, Choreography by Christopher Wheeldon
Estancia-Choreography by Christopher Wheeldon

Be mindful of your impulsive facebook posts. One of my recent posts led me to Portland, Oregon on an impromptu whim. My post was “ Who needs me to go with them to YEASAYER May 4th at Webster Hall? I am unable to get tickets-sold out.” Short story- within a hour, my friend living in Portland got tickets to the local concert there at the Wonder Ballroom. The next day I had airline tickets. It certainly did not hurt that there were some jewelry stores I wanted to explore, and some coffee houses, and some vintage stores, and my friend has a vineyard…For the sake of inspiration…by all means I went. Alas, I am back to Manhattan; refreshed by Portland’s mellow and soothing energy, pure air and food, natural scenic backdrops (Mt. Hood), and energized by its funky eclectic feel. Portland has a tantalizing vibe, historic charm, easy MAX public transportation, sumptuous and innovative culinary cuisine (Le Pigeon), great coffee/tea (Stumptown & Fehrenbacher Hof) , Anna Bananas Oregon Berry Smoothies-YUM, Powells Bookstore, chic hotels emphasizing local and organic sourcing ( The Nines), great boutique shopping (Moule and Covet…). Some of the Moule staff are my new Portland Peeps, they took me to Clyde Commons, fun fun-thank you! It seems those with a soaring zest for life find each other. Here’s to wondrous friendships and divine wine! Find some of that divine wine here… Cerulean Tempranillo www.ceruleanwine.com

What is more uplifting and enriching than a work/play trip? Not much really… An opportunity to see friends and put my jewelry in a new store presented itself at the most opportune time. Katrina Kelly Jewelry was delighted to pick up a new store in Zurich, Switzerland and even more thrilled to get to visit it in person. Coincidentally, I have friends living in the area so it made the trip even more welcoming and enticing. After visiting the jewelry store in Zurich, I went to Geneva to stay at one of my best friend’s home, which is fittingly surrounded by glorious lush vineyards. Walks in these vineyards were quite celestial. She made the most delicious fondue-thank you! I trekked to CERN to try and unlock the key to the universe, without prevail-yet anyway. Then, Paris for cafes, fashion, to see another friend and attend a jewellery/accessories show. I was ridiculously overwhelmed at all the brilliant, well made and lavish designs that I saw this season; costume jewelry, fashion jewelry, fine jewelry, accessories, lace, lingerie, shoes, clothes… I am intensely inspired, rejuvenated and so anxious to design more collections!
